I've often said that America needs to be a place where it doesn't matter that much who wins elections because their power is so limited and they can't really do much damage. it's a turd. it does not cut spending. Spending GOES UP. It doesn't eliminate any department or program. it doesn't reform medicare or social security. There's no balanced budget or balanced budget amendment. it locks into the budget baselines Obamacare and the Porkulus bill and it gives Obama another credit card to charge through the 2012 election. It will likely lead to tax increases. Tell me, why should any conservative be in favor of this crap?

Politicians may freak out of the debt ceiling was reached, but frankly, that's the best solution to the problem that is federal spending. Immediately, the government would be forced to live within its means. I have no interest in the vast majority of government spending. Most of it is waste and a lot of it exceeds the plain meaning of the constitution. Even some defense spending is a waste. Most of it is graft and corruption, or opportunities therefore. Frankly, there's no reason for conservatives to want it to continue this monstrosity. I am willing to gradually do away with these programs, departments and spending items, but DC isn't willing to do a damn thing to roll it back. So, there's only one solution: Blow it up. No Deal!

The other side can't have speakers, can't voice opinions, can't vote on legislation or judges and can't even have lawyers now. It tells us so much about what they actually believe in and what they're values are.

If you believe in traditional family values, then you're a Jim-Crow, KKK, fire-hosing, bible thumping bigot. However, what ought to be private sexual behavior must not only be tolerated, but promoted TO CHILDREN and glorified IN PUBLIC...and if you disagree, well...shut up! Can't use the word "Christmas" or "Easter." Piss Christ must be funded by taxpayers, but the 10 Commandments - AVERT YOUR EYES and they SUE to get it removed. Can't have anyone believing in those things!

It's why I can't call them "liberals" anymore. "Liberal" implies some sort of belief in liberty, which they're clearly against in any meaningful, non-sexualized way. It's why I also can't fully commit to libertarianism, though I'm fully libertarian on economic issues - an immoral society won't commit to personal responsibility and individual freedom. And in the end, when there is no more (or not enough) morality...Barack Obama get's elected. Then, we're all screwed.

It's time to end rigged system

Public employee unions are unlike private sector unions. In the private sector some of the interests of employees and employers aren't aligned. Employers want to keep costs low; but employees want to maximize their pay and benefits, thus raising costs to employers. In order to strengthen their hand, employees unite to collectively bargain over wages and benefits.

Now consider the case of public sector unions. Public sector employees want to maximize their wages and benefits, too. But unlike their private sector counterparts, they have a very big role to play in choosing the employers on the other side of the negotiating table. They do this by taking funds earned through collective bargaining and sending them right back to the people they bargain with in the form of political contributions.

If that sounds like a rigged system; well, that's because it is.

Labor brute force rules

But do the unions really care? Bullying legislators and abusing taxpayers is nothing new for organized labor. In his 2009 farewell address, former National Education Association general counsel Bob Chanin laid it out on why his union had been so effective:

“It is not because we care about children; and it is not because we have a vision of a great public school for every child. [It is] because we have power. And we have power because there are more than 3.2 million people who are willing to pay us hundreds of million of dollars in dues each year because they believe that . . . the union can protect their rights and advance their interests.”

This episode has always been about power. Public employee unions have a disproportionate share of it, and it's time to end their use of undue influence to fleece the taxpayers (real working people) by pushing for the ever expanding growth of big government.

Democrats just don't understand the new populism

"Even so, Obama's Democratic National Committee now thinks it has the winning hand in the labor scuffles that began in Wisconsin this month. In the view of the Left, the Democrats are standing with the working man against the greedy. The acrid Paul Krugman wrote in the New York Times that government unions provide a 'counterweight to the political power of big money.'

Hard facts utterly contradict Krugman's claim. First, unions are 'Big Money.' Of the top 10 sources of political contributions since 1989, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, five are unions. Of the top 20 sources of 2010 campaign funds, 10 are unions.

And the notion that Big Labor is cancelling out Big Business -- well, that's a Big Lie, too. The 10 industries that contributed the most during the 2010 elections -- from Wall Street to government unions -- all gave more to Democrats than to Republicans.

The top donor to House and Senate campaigns in the 2010 elections -- the Service Employees International Union -- is otherwise known as 'Obama's Union.' The company that spent the most on lobbying in 2010 -- General Electric -- is also known as 'the for-profit arm of the Obama Administration.'"

Is This How a President Should Act?

I have written in the past about how libertarians are pretty lonely in the political scheme of things in terms of constantly being challenged to defend themselves against the "logical conclusion" of their philosophy. But I think it's time to amend that. We are witnessing the logical conclusion of the Democratic Party's philosophy, and it is this: Your tax dollars exist to make public sector unions happy. When we run out of other people's money to pay for those contracts and promises (most of which are negotiated outside of public view, often between union officials and the politicians that union officials helped elect), then we just need to raise taxes to cover a shortfall that is obviously Wall Street's fault. Anyone who doesn't agree is a bully, and might just bear an uncanny resemblance to Hitler.

Reagan at 100

I have loved Ronald Reagan since I was 9 years old. He has been a true inspiration in my life. Though, we never met, he has meant so much to me in my life, as an American and a conservative Republican - more than any other public figure. Though he's been gone for over 6 years now, he hasn't been forgotten. He was a true leader. A true statesman. A great American. He provided so much wisdom to American political culture. He was so popular and is still popular today. It simply amazes me that politicians don't heed the warnings he gave. They don't follow the example he set. They don't learn the lessons he taught us. Of course, he was special. One of our truly greatest presidents. Even the statist Obama is trying to emulate him. Of course, that commie is simply trying to emulate Reagan's style, not his substance. I doubt he'll pull it off because he doesn't believe it. It's a ploy...but I digress.

Ronald Reagan was a great man. Today marks the 100th Anniversary of his birth. We all should be grateful for the leadership he provided. When he became president America was in a dark hour. It isn't that he "saved us." Reagan would never think such a thing and neither will I. However, he did shine the light on the path that would make us more free, more stable and better off than when he took office. His way also liberated millions around the globe. He should get credit for leading the way.

Right now, America is in another dark hour and the country is seemingly headed down the toilet due to statist policies and weakness on the foreign stage. Many want to see another Reagan come in and save us. That won't happen. Reagan was one of a kind. Hopefully, America will get some new leaders that lead us the way and pick up where Reagan left off in understanding the perils of big government, but it's just as likely that we'll get another Bush or worse, Obama. But, again, I digress.

The point is that Reagan was one of a kind and we were damn lucky that he was born 100 years ago and grew to be the great leader he was. We're not always so lucky. Usually, we're not.

Happy Birthday, Ronald Reagan. We still miss you, but are grateful for the life you lead and the wisdom you left behind. Thank you so much.

The natural outcome of believing we can guarantee things that only God has control over is, precisely, the "unsustainability" we all talk about today in relation to government activism. When we take it on ourselves to guarantee results, we begin writing check after check we have no way of cashing. Many a burned-out boss and harried parent has learned the hard way that he or she literally cannot foresee, manage, direct, control, avert, prohibit, or guarantee everything related to a work place or a family's life. Once other humans—and the vicissitudes of nature—enter the picture, there is much we simply do not control.

Clinton to unveil US funds for clean cookstove push

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will announce on Tuesday a U.S. contribution of more than $50 million toward providing clean cooking stoves in developing countries to reduce deaths from smoke inhalation and fight climate change.

First off, the Secretary of State does not have authority under our Constitution to make such a "contribution." Neither does the President, for that matter. Congress should withhold funds for this frivolousness.

The U.S. funding, which will be spread over five years, is part of a Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves being started to combat a problem officials equate with malaria and unclean water in terms of their health impact worldwide.
Some 1.9 million premature deaths, mostly among women and young children, occur every year due to smoke inhalation from rudimentary stoves, which in many cases consist of a few stones and an open fire inside or outside a shelter, officials said.

Secondly, our country is broke right now. Sure $10 billion/year for 5 years is a drop in the bucket, but we need to start getting water out of the bucket, not adding more. We simply can't afford this waste of money.

More importantly, people in poor countries who can't figure out how not to kill themselves cooking their food probably won't be able use an efficient stove anyway...again, this "contribution" is a huge waste of money.

He said the group would seek to create a market for cleaner, less-polluting stoves and fuels to supply some 500 million households worldwide now using inefficient and dangerous cooking methods.

Next, if this group wants to create a market for these stoves, it should invest his own damn money in creating one, not begging for a handout from the government that subsidizes purchases of his product. That's not free market at all. It's rent-seeking.

Lastly, human caused global warming is a farce and "solutions" to it that use taxpayer money should be disregarded as foolish. Changing the weather is not a priority and not worth the time and money spent on it.
