"It's pretty - apparent," the president continued, "and -- it's troublesome. But -- you know, keep in mind that there have been periods in American history where this kind of -- this kind of vitriol comes out. It happens often when -- you've got an economy that is making people more anxious and people are feeling that there's a lot of change that needs to take place. But that's not the vast majority of Americans.And it's laughable that this guy pretends he's not a socialist! He wants to nationalize the health insurance and care industry, the auto industry, banking, mortgage, student loans and eventually energy - but other than that, he's not a socialist! The guy thinks that Americans are fools (he must get that impression from spending so much time with his supporters). Real Americans, however, are not, and he would love nothing more than to put a gag around real Americans' free speech, but the harder he tries, the louder we'll get.
"I do think that everybody has a responsibility, Democrats or Republicans, to tone down some of this rhetoric. And the truth is some of these comments when you actually ask, well, this is based on what? This notion that 'Obama's a Socialist,' for example. Nobody can really (he chuckled) give you a good answer…"
